Do you see her much?

"Do I see her much?"

Only every time I close my eyes. When I blink. When I stare into space. When I can't sleep. In my dreams. Out the corner of my eye. Always.

"Nah, not really. We just drifted, you know?"

I've found a new lightning fast place to find prompts: Yeah Write

This is an entry for their Gargleblaster Challenge - it has to be 42 words on the dot, and open to the first 42 people. This week (#157), the prompt is Do you see her much?

  1. Wow - 42 words exactly sounds challenging. I thought 100 words was tough. Well done!

    1. At the moment, more challenging is working out how to get their link back thing working correctly, I'm banging my head on the desk and swearing quietly to myself as HTML is a closed book to me

    2. Argh, so sorry the badges and backlinks are giving you headaches! Feel free to ping me any time and I'll walk you through it. It will help if I set up the link-up properly, of course...

  7. So true how our words are often lies to cover up what we're REALLY thinking, because the truth leaves us too vulnerable :)

  8. A great 42 words.
I loved the contrast between what we say out loud against what we really think.

  11. I love getting peeks into people's thought and how their thoughts can be so different from what they say. This was a creative way to respond to the prompt.

  13. Very nice - I'm with the others: it's the casual denial that makes this really great, the contrast between the internal and the external conversation. So glad you joined us here at yeah write! Keep on gargleblasting!

  21. Well done on getting in those contrasting emotions of the frantic internal dialogue and the external nonchalant one. Could see the protagonist shrug as s/he spoke and pushed away the truth.
